2026-10-04 Claude Marketplace - Anthropic is building the distribution layer
Canonical version: 2026-10-04 Claude Marketplace - Anthropic is building the distribution layer.
Anthropic now runs a storefront: the Claude Marketplace, at claude.com/marketplace. The tagline is "Connect your apps, data and tools to Claude", and the page is split into Add, Buy and Scale:
- Add: more than 2,000 connectors and plugins (Google Drive, Gmail, Microsoft 365, Notion, Slack, Linear, Figma, HubSpot...)
- Buy: agents and products from partners. Factory, Cursor and Vercel for code, Gamma for data, CrowdStrike's Charlotte AI for security
- Scale: service partners from the Claude Partner Network (Accenture and Deloitte as Global Premier, Caylent and Slalom as Preferred)
Purchases count toward your Anthropic commitment
Purchases "count toward your existing Anthropic commitment".
If your company already signed a spend commitment with Anthropic, buying a partner's agent draws from a budget that's already approved, with no new vendor contract or procurement round. In a large company, procurement is usually the slowest step between "let's try it" and actually using it.
That makes the marketplace a distribution play around Claude. Anthropic runs the place where partners get found and bought, and the money comes out of budgets companies already committed to Anthropic. Partners get access to approved spend; Anthropic keeps that spend on its own platform.
Three different "marketplaces"
- Plugin marketplaces in Claude Code. A git repo with a
.claude-plugin/marketplace.jsonfile. Anyone can create one, and you add it with/plugin marketplace add. That's how Claude Code Plugins and Claude Code Mods get shared. Free, and there's no storefront - The Claude directory (claude.ai/directory/manage), where you submit your work to Anthropic. The mods launch guide tells you to publish there
- The Claude Marketplace (claude.com/marketplace), the commercial one
Does a directory listing end up on the marketplace automatically? I couldn't find that stated anywhere, so I wouldn't assume it.
What it means if you build plugins
For now, not much. Anthropic hasn't published revenue share terms, so an indie author has no reason to list there, and the "buy" side looks reserved for big partners.
I'll keep an eye on those terms. If Anthropic publishes them for individual authors, the math changes for anyone selling Claude extensions. Until then:
- Keep sharing through git-based plugin marketplaces. They cost nothing, and they're how Claude Code installs plugins today
- Submit to the directory if you want visibility, but don't plan revenue around it
- If you sell to enterprises, look at the partner program. "It counts toward your commitment" is a strong argument in front of a procurement team
The details (what's listed, how the three marketplaces relate) are in my Claude Marketplace note.
That's it for today! ✨
