2026-10-14 Life Tracker 3.2 - Quick add for the properties you fill in by hand
Canonical version: 2026-10-14 Life Tracker 3.2 - Quick add for the properties you fill in by hand.
I've released two updates of the Life Tracker plugin for Obsidian today: 3.1.0 and 3.2.0. Most changes are quality of life things that some of you asked for in the Knowii Community.
Why a quick-add panel
My daily notes now have more than 100 properties. Most of them get filled in for me: a script syncs my health metrics from Garmin, and AI fills in others. But there's a small set I still set by hand: squats, lunges, calf raises, tib raises, push-ups, abs, plank, wall sit, jump rope, walked, mood and water intake.
Opening a capture dialog that walks through every property just to log 20 squats was too slow. So I built a panel that shows only those few.
The quick-add panel
Run Life Tracker: Quick add or click the new ribbon icon (a circle with a plus). The panel lists only the properties you enable with Show in quick add in the property settings. That option is off by default, so the panel stays short.
Each row has its own −/+ buttons, emoji buttons or checkbox, and every tap saves immediately. Today I logged 20 squats and some extra lunges that way.
If a daily note is open, the panel edits that day, so you can back-fill in place. Otherwise it edits today. The ‹ › buttons move between days, and Today brings you back. If the note for that day doesn't exist yet, the panel offers to create it.
One-tap links for your phone
You can also skip the panel. This link adds one to the water property of today's note without opening anything:
obsidian://life-tracker-quick-add?property=water&increment
Put it on your phone's home screen, and logging a glass of water takes one tap. Links also support increment=10, decrement, toggle, set=<value> and date=YYYY-MM-DD. A link without a property opens the panel.
Other changes in 3.1 and 3.2
- The first + on an empty counter now logs 1. On properties whose range starts at 0 (e.g., water intake), it used to log 0, which looked like nothing happened. − still sets 0, so "none today" stays one tap.
- Missing values no longer chart as 0 when a property has a value mapping (e.g., none → 0, mild → 1). Empty days stay empty instead of dragging your averages down.
- A new optional setting, Auto-advance after picking a value, moves the capture dialog to the next property as soon as you pick from a dropdown, tap an emoji button or toggle a checkbox.
- Saturday can now be the first day of the week, next to Monday and Sunday. Weekly grouping, heatmap week columns and day labels, "this week" and "last week" all follow it. A user asked for it in issue #162.
- Settings changed outside Obsidian (Obsidian Sync, a git pull, a hand edit) are no longer overwritten by the plugin's next save. It reloads them and refreshes open views and the settings tab. A settings file caught mid-write by a sync tool, or briefly missing, no longer resets your settings.
- Multi-line property descriptions keep their line breaks in the capture dialog. Useful if you describe each value on its own line.
Thanks, Andrii
Andrii Oriekhov contributed auto-advance, the settings reload and the multi-line descriptions. He also helped with the fix for missing values in charts. Thank you! 🙏
