Claude Desktop on Linux

Canonical version: Claude Desktop on Linux.

Since late June 2026, the Claude desktop app runs on Linux in beta. All three tabs are there: Chat, Claude Cowork, and Claude Code with parallel sessions, visual diff review, integrated terminal and editor, and live app preview. Same experience as macOS and Windows, on all paid plans (claude.ai subscription or SSO; no Console API key, that stays CLI-only).

Officially supported: Ubuntu 22.04+ and Debian 12+, on x86_64 or arm64. Installation goes through Anthropic's apt repository (signing key + sudo apt install claude-desktop), so updates ride your normal apt upgrade; the app doesn't self-update on Linux. A direct .deb download exists as fallback, but doesn't get updates.

Not in the beta yet:

• Computer Use (app and screen control)
• Dictation — voice input stays CLI-side via voice dictation
• Quick Entry global hotkey on Wayland — works on X11; native Wayland needs the desktop environment's GlobalShortcuts portal
• Fedora/RHEL — Debian-based distros only for now

The relevant caveat for me: Arch (and therefore Omarchy) isn't officially supported; other Debian-based distros "may work" but aren't tested, and Arch isn't Debian-based at all. The CLI remains the path that runs everywhere, and it's the same Claude Code engine underneath. Still, desktop-app-on-Linux is a milestone: Linux users stopped being an afterthought for Anthropic's consumer surface.
