My communications plan

This is my (Sébastien Dubois) Communications plan. It describes where/how I share information and ideas. It's part of my business flywheel.

Canonical version: My communications plan.

This is my (Sébastien Dubois) Communications plan. It describes where/how I share information and ideas. It's part of my business flywheel.

Goals of this plan

  • Give me confidence that I communicate effectively
  • Maximize the distribution of my ideas
  • Maximize their visibility and impact
  • Respect people's time, attention, and preferences

Channels

Here are the "channels" I use and am present/active on:

General principles

All my ideas first appear on my public notes. I then turn some of those into articles that add to my notes (also published on the notes Website), and then I

  • Publish those on my blog
  • Cross-post those to other places
  • Promote on social media platforms, in my newsletter, in the Knowii Community, in various others communities, and on Hacker News

My blog is the main entry point to everything I share, and my newsletter is my main way to share updates.

Ideas

I first share ideas on my public notes and/or on social media. I then reshare those on various social media platforms.

News

Some of my public notes are worth broader reach than the notes Website alone. I curate those by selecting them from my public notes and surfacing them on my news page — a chronological, Simon-Willison-style feed mirrored to my blog. Selection is manual and intentional: I review recent public notes and pick the ones that feel worth sharing as short-form updates (interesting links, quick takes, announcements, small discoveries). Each news post keeps its canonical URL on notes.dsebastien.net; the blog mirror is just a discovery surface for readers who follow the main site. See Process - Ghost News Publishing for the pipeline details.

Articles

I prepare articles within my notes, publish those on my notes Website, then turn those into articles that I publish on my blog, which represents the canonical link for those.

Then, I cross-post those articles on different platforms:

  • Medium (PKM Journal if the article is about Knowledge Management (KM))
  • Substack
  • LinkedIn (DeveloPassion's Newsletter on LinkedIn)

I also sometimes share my articles on HashNode, DEV.to, when topics are relevant, but it's rare.

Newsletters

I prepare my newsletters within my notes, publish those on my notes Website, then turn those into newsletter editions on my main newsletter.

I then cross-post those newsletters on different platforms:

I plan on also sharing those as long "tweets" on X.

Videos

I publish long-form videos to YouTube, and short ones on TikTok. I then cross-post those on social media platforms.

Project/Product launches and updates

Whenever I launch a new project or product, I promote it using all of the channels at my disposal.

When I have important/relevant updates to share, I send it to all existing customers, created dedicated blog posts, mention it in my newsletter, and on social media.

Now

I shared what I'm currently busy doing on my "now" page: https://www.dsebastien.net/now/ I try updating it once per quarter at a minimum.

Personal updates

I share personal updates via my newsletter, but also via my "about" page: https://www.dsebastien.net/about/ I use that page to document my life's journey, big events and big shifts.
